According to the councillor, on Friday, 27 May 2022, he received a call from a Ward Committee member, Ntombenhle Mhlanga, informing him about a badly decomposing body lying alongside the riverbank.

“When I received the call, I was already on my way to the municipality, and I personally went to the police station to report the matter. I must commend the SAPS members for responding to it with urgency,” stated Cllr Made.

However, he expressed concern over the recent discovery, further stating that this is the second of the sort this year.

“Earlier this year, another body of an unknown woman was found at the same spot. This is very concerning, as we are now not sure whether these people are dumped here from elsewhere, as we cannot identify them.” Further stating, “we call upon the community to always be vigilant at all times and we also commend them for acting with compassion in ensuring that the body that was found was handled with dignity.”

This discovery was also confirmed by the Dannhauser SAPS, who called for family members who have lost a relative to come forward to identify the deceased, as they are yet to establish her identity.

According to the police, the woman was wearing a shweshwe dress, a grey coat and flip flops. Next to her was a plastic bag with meat.

If you know the deceased, please contact the Danhauser SAPS on 034 621 6506
