While everyone focussed on the eThekwini (Durban) area during the recent rainfalls, Dannhauser in Northern KwaZulu-Natal took a beating. So much so that the Dannhauser Municipality’s Communications Unit explains that according to the Disaster Management Unit, from 12 to 18 April 2022, a total of 62 homes and about 199 residents were impacted throughout the small town.

“In addition, 30 structures were completely destroyed and 20 partially impacted. In response to the incident, the municipality assisted with temporary shelter, blankets, sponges and plastic sheetings as a form of immediate relief,” the Communications Unit points out.

While the damage has been substantial, the Dannhauser Municipality highlighted that, fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

However, not done yet. The Disaster Management team, ward councillors and various departments, in partnership with the Amajuba District Municipality, continue to assess damaged homes.

As further inspections are currently underway, Newcastillians can reach out to assist Dannhauser residents impacted by the weather.

The Dannhauser Municipality’s Communications Department said, “Those who wish to lend a hand in a form of donations, can use the drop-off box found at the municipality’s reception area.”
