According to the claims now forming part of the police investigation, the staff member was attacked during the altercation before the suspect, who is understood to work in a managerial position, allegedly produced a firearm and pointed it at her.
The matter was subsequently reported to law enforcement, with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) stating that it assisted the victim in opening a case and engaging with police.
The party said it was also present when the suspect was arrested later that same day.
Welcoming the arrest on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, the EFF stated;
“The EFF will be monitoring the case with great caution and will ensure that justice is served.”
Furthermore, Amajuba District SAPS spokesperson, Constable Nonjabulo Langa, confirmed the arrest, saying:
“The suspect was arrested and charged with common assault, after which she was released on bail.”
While the arrest has been confirmed, Constable Langa noted that the matter remains in its early stages. Investigators are still working to establish what led to the altercation, as well as the circumstances surrounding the allegation that a firearm was drawn during the incident.

She added that no further details can be released at this stage, as the investigation is still ongoing.
The case now moves into the evidentiary phase, where statements and any available corroborating evidence will determine how the matter proceeds.

With the suspect released on bail, the allegations are expected to be tested through the court process. Until then, SAPS maintains that the investigation remains active, with further updates dependent on the outcome of ongoing enquiries.
