After numerous reports came in over the weekend pertaining to negligent and downright shocking driving from truck drivers on NZKN roads—within the past 24 hours the already dangerous R34 added two more truck-related accidents to its lengthy tally.

On Monday morning, 16 May 2022, traffic flow on the R34 towards Melmoth from Vryheid was hampered after a truck ploughed into the back of the truck in front of it.

While no injuries were reported, the RTI and emergency personnel attended to the scene, ensuring the road was cleared.

In a separate incident, on Sunday morning, 15 May 2022 two people were injured, after two side-tipper trucks collided on the R34, Memel Road.

According to official sources on the scene, while circumstances around the incident are unclear, both vehicles veered off the road due to the impact of the collision. Fortunately, both drivers only sustained moderate injuries, and were treated on the scene before being taken to hospital for further care.
