As the weekend approaches, winter continues to hold firm across South Africa, turning attention to the conditions residents of Newcastle, Ladysmith and Vryheid can expect over the coming days.
According to AccuWeather’s three-day outlook, all three towns are set to experience largely mild, settled conditions during the day, providing some relief from the harsher extremes often associated with winter.

However, the daytime warmth will fade quickly after sunset, with temperatures expected to drop sharply during the evenings and early mornings.
The weekend forecast is as follows:
Friday, 17 July 2026
Newcastle: A pleasant day is forecast, with temperatures expected to reach 24°C before dropping to a chilly 6°C overnight.
Ladysmith: Fair conditions are anticipated, with a daytime high of 23°C. Temperatures are then forecast to fall to a cold 4°C during the night.
Vryheid: A warm day is expected, with temperatures peaking at 23°C before declining to 6°C overnight.
Saturday, 18 July 2026
Newcastle: Mild and comfortable conditions are expected to continue, with temperatures climbing to 26°C. The overnight low is forecast at 9°C.
Ladysmith: Pleasant daytime conditions will persist, with temperatures reaching 25°C before falling to 4°C overnight.
Vryheid: A pleasant day is forecast, with temperatures expected to reach 25°C. Cooler conditions will follow after sunset, with a low of 7°C anticipated.
Sunday, 19 July 2026
Newcastle: Warm daytime conditions are expected to continue, with temperatures reaching 26°C. However, the mercury is forecast to drop sharply to 6°C overnight.
Ladysmith: Pleasant weather is anticipated during the day, with temperatures reaching 25°C. By night, conditions will become considerably colder, with temperatures falling to just 2°C.
Vryheid: Fine conditions are forecast, with a daytime high of 24°C before temperatures decline to 5°C overnight.
Although daytime conditions are expected to remain stable and relatively warm across the region, the sharp drop in temperatures after sunset will be the defining feature of the weekend.
Residents should therefore prepare for colder conditions during the early mornings and evenings, particularly in Ladysmith, where temperatures could fall as low as 2°C on Sunday night.

As winter weather conditions can change, residents are encouraged to continue monitoring updates from reliable weather services and credible media platforms as the weekend progresses.
