A 45-year-old Newcastle man’s murder is under investigation after he was found inside his home bound, gagged, beaten and burned before being killed.
According to reports, the murder occurred in Madadeni, Section 5, within Newcastle’s borders.

Moreover, the South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that the incident took place between Saturday night, 11 July 2026, and the early hours of Monday morning, 13 July 2026, where it was within this timeframe that concern first emerged.
Elaborating on the case, Amajuba SAPS District Spokesperson, Constable Nonjabulo Langa, pointed out that the deceased was last seen on Saturday night, 11 July 2026. However, after he was not seen on Sunday, 12 July 2026, concern grew among family members.
As a result, his nephew went to the house on Monday, 13 July 2026 and, after receiving no response, entered the residence, where his uncle’s body was discovered.
The discovery led SAPS to open a murder investigation, with police now searching for an undisclosed number of suspects.
Investigators are also examining how the attackers gained access to the property, particularly as there were no signs of forced entry.
However, Constable Langa confirmed that the deceased was found lying on the lounge floor, wearing only underwear.
His hands had been tied and his mouth gagged with a blue cloth.
“He had head injuries, bruises on his neck from strangulation and had burn wounds on his chest, suspected to be caused by an electric heater that was found near the body,” said Langa.
She further confirmed that the door was found unlocked, with no evidence of forced entry. This has become an important part of the investigation, as police consider whether the deceased may have known the person, or people, responsible.
Furthermore, the deceased’s vehicle has also become part of the case.
According to Langa, the vehicle was not in the garage when the body was discovered.
It was later found on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, in the Osizweni area near Dry Cut.
SAPS confirmed that the vehicle had been abandoned with the keys still in the ignition. Both tyres were also punctured.
While the full sequence of events remains under investigation, Langa confirmed that SAPS have opened cases of murder and robbery.
With the identity and number of suspects still unknown, Langa has called on anyone with information to come forward.
Police have stressed that even a small detail could assist investigators as they work to identify those responsible and bring them to book.
As the investigation continues, SAPS are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area between Saturday night, 11 July 2026, and Monday morning, 13 July 2026, to contact police.
