According to AccuWeather’s weekend forecast, the first official weekend of 2026 is set to begin on a warm note. However, cooler conditions are expected to follow, bringing relief from the recent heat alongside rain and the increased likelihood of thunderstorms.

Ladysmith: Cooler weather conditions are expected, with temperatures set to reach 22°, accompanied by rain and thunderstorms. Thereafter, the night’s temperatures are expected to drop to 14°, with further thunderstorms.

Vryheid: An even cooler day is on the card, with temperatures expected to reach 22° and a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Consequently, temperatures during the night are expected to drop to 14°.

Sunday, 4 January 2026:

Newcastle: An overcast day with thunderstorms and showers is forecast, with temperatures set to reach a comfortable 20°. Following this, nighttime temperatures are predicted to drop to 13°.

Ladysmith: A cool and overcast day is with temperatures expected to reach 23° is expected, accompanied by rainfall and thunderstorms during the afternoon. Cool weather conditions are forecast to persist throughout the night, with temperatures dropping to 15°. Scattered thunderstorms can be expected.

Vryheid: A mostly cloudy day with a little rain is forecast, with temperatures set to reach 20°. Additionally, more rainfall is predicted for the night, with temperatures dipping to 14°.

As the weekend unfolds, Newcastle, Ladysmith, and Vryheid residents should prepare for a noticeable shift in weather patterns, transitioning from initial warmth to more temperate conditions interspersed with rainy weather.
