ArcelorMittal South Africa’s Newcastle Works is making a substantial contribution to the local educational sector aiming to equip the next generation of skilled workers to tackle future infrastructural challenges.
On Thursday morning, 30 May 2024, the steel giant generously donated and delivered 18.8 tonnes of steel to Majuba TVET College.
Valued at just under R240,000, this donation will be utilised to train artisans in various trades and prepare them for their trade tests.
Joe Nowbath from ArcelorMittal South Africa’s Newcastle Works emphasised the significance of such contributions: “It is critical for ArcelorMittal to be involved in steel sponsorships, so as to ensure that we create another generation of skilled workers that can propel South Africa to meet the infrastructural challenges that lie ahead. This also helps by ensuring the localisation of employment as we will have trained artisans within our country.”
Furthermore, Munya Kamukapa of Majuba TVET College expressed profound gratitude for the donation: “It forms part of our longstanding relationship with ArcelorMittal, and the steel supplements what we would otherwise have to purchase.”
He added that the steel would greatly enhance the practical experience of the college’s apprentices throughout their studies.

They putting their employees through phycological trauma and still want to sponsor. They should be ashamed
Why they cut ons overtime and workers pay, but donate?
This is wrong, you should look at your own workers firts.
Appreciated, wish they can create more jobs for the artisans that are qualifying everyday…
