After a month of frantic searching, investigations into the disappearance of an 18-year-old boy who was abducted along Allen Street in Newcastle, are still ongoing.
Amahle Mpila was abducted on 29 April 2024, after reportedly being severely assaulted by a group of unknown suspects.
Although the details surrounding the assault remain unclear, Amahle managed to escape and was attempting to reach the Newcastle Police Station for help.
According to a report by Newcastillian News on 2 May 2024, as Amahle was making his way to the Newcastle SAPS, a vagrant encountered him and tried to assist. Despite the vagrant’s efforts, four armed men approached them on Allen Street, forced Amahle into a vehicle, and sped off.

Following the incident, Belinda Ellor of the Newcastle Community Policing Forum (CPF) explained that law enforcement and the Newcastle CPF have been searching tirelessly for Amahle.
“He has not been found as yet, and further investigations are underway,” she emphasised, noting that both law enforcement and the Newcastle CPF are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to locate the teenager.
