Law enforcement is appealing to the Newcastle community for assistance, following the abduction of an 18-year-old boy by four men in the Newcastle CBD.

Belinda Ellor, Deputy Secretary at the Newcastle Community Policing Forum (CPF), detailed the incident which occurred along Allen Street on Monday, 29 April 2024.
Amahle Mpila was allegedly assaulted badly by a group of unknown suspects. While the details around the assault are unclear, Amahle had managed to escape and was attempting to make his way to the Newcastle Police Station.

Elaborating further on the matter, Ellor explained that during this time, a vagrant encountered Amahle in town and attempted to help him. “He was struggling to walk, and the vagrant had apparently tried to assist him and get him to the Newcastle Police Station,” said Ellor.
She added that while the duo was walking along Allen Street, a white Golf containing four armed men pulled up alongside the vagrant and Amahle. They then proceeded to force the injured teenager into the vehicle before speeding off. Unfortunately, the vehicle’s registration number was not recorded.
Currently, both the Newcastle SAPS and Newcastle CPF are actively searching for the missing teenager. With concerns for Amahle’s safety, residents are urged to contact the following numbers with any information on his whereabouts:
- Newcastle CPF Chairperson – Ismaeel Dhalech: 072 136 7677.
- Newcastle CPF Deputy Chairperson – Aasif: 065 879 2316.
- Newcastle CPF Secretary – Talha Randeree: 083 254 5943.
- Newcastle CPF Deputy Secretary – Belinda Ellor: 071 404 3575.
- Amahle Mpila’s father – Bheki Thuli: 076 821 0142.

As the search for Amahle Mpila continues, the community is called on to assist law enforcement in ensuring his safe return.
