A significant investment amounting to millions is set to transform three key roads under the Alfred Duma (Ladysmith) Municipality, greatly impacting those who rely on public transport and school children.

On Monday, 6 May 2024, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety, and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka, officially announced the contractor at the Siphmfundo Sports Field for the upgrade of roads P361, D871, and D1290 in Ward 32 of the Alfred Duma Local Municipality.
“Main Road, P361, and District Roads, D871 and D1290, are an essential transport route for buses and minibus taxis, transporting people and school children to various facilities including schools, clinics and several retail outlets that are located along the road,” stated the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport.
The Department further emphasised that these roads provide essential access to seven schools, a community hall, and a clinic, benefiting communities and social facilities in eNtabeni, Ezihlabathini, and Rockcliff.
It’s worth noting that these three roads are currently gravelled, and their drainage systems require upgrading and improvement.
“The proposed upgrade to a blacktop surfaced road will contribute to the social and economic upliftment of the area, as well as adding to the safety of many pedestrians by providing sidewalks. The total cost of the project is estimated to be R404 million and is expected to create more than 355 employment opportunities,” the Department highlighted.

That’s great news. What about the road from Ladysmith to winterton, it’s terrible full of potholes. This road is used by tourists going to the bergs. Really needs attention.
Also pay attention to HELPMEKAR ROAD FROM LADYSMITH TO R33 ITS VERY BAD
I doubt that this will be successfully. It another way to redirect funds to the pockets of corrupt politicians.
