A sombre incident unfolded at the Allen Street and Memel Road intersection on Thursday morning, 2 May 2024, as a man tragically lost his life in what is suspected to be a hit-and-run.
The incident occurred shortly before 7:30 am, while the man was walking near the intersection, close to the local McDonald’s.
Emergency services received a distress call about the man being seen lying on the side of the road. Shortly after their arrival, paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
An official source on the scene stated that details surrounding the incident remain unclear at this point. “We are currently searching for any witnesses that might have seen what happened,” the source remarked.
Therefore, authorities urge anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the Newcastle South African Police Service (SAPS) promptly.

Where is the culprit if this was a hit and run, the deceased man was probably on his way to work, and a thoughtless, incompassionate person caused his death( obviously without remorse). To much of a coward to stop at the scene. Disgusting to say the least.
Hopefully the camera footage will identify the culprit.
