Search for missing Alberton mother and toddler comes to end in Utrecht, KZN

The search for a missing Alberton mother and her two-year-old son has come to a tragic end, with police finding Lesedi Radebe’s body in Utrecht, Northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Gauteng Police Spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Sello explained that the horrific case unfolded early in May 2022 when Lesedi and her son went missing in Alberton, south of Johannesburg. They were reported missing to the Alberton Police Station on 3 May 2022.

Unfortunately, according to Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, Radebe’s body was found on Saturday, 4 June 2022, in Utrecht. Her vehicle was later found in Newcastle. Furthermore, the 28-year-old woman’s child was not found with his deceased mother.

However, Gwala confirmed that on Monday, 6 June 2022, Radebe’s little son was found dead on the R34, which falls under the Newcastle Policing area.

“Both victims were found with slit throats. Charges of murder are being investigated,” Gwala confirmed.

Gwala further explained that the suspect allegedly responsible for the crime was reported to have thrown himself under a moving truck.
