A body was discovered early on Thursday morning, 19 May 2022, in an open field on Albert Wessels Drive, behind Elm Street in Arbor Park, Newcastle.
Newcastle Police Spokesperson Lizzy Arumugam explains that officials received a call at 6 am, with a concerned community member reporting the discovery.

She further explains that after law enforcement and medical personnel arrived, they noted a small stab wound on the back of the deceased body, and it seemed that an object like a screwdriver was used.
“The deceased was an African male, in his late twenties, socks on with no shoes. Furthermore, 50 meters away from the deceased’s body, behind 7 Elm Street, slip-on shoes, a blanket, sjambok and a ladder were found.”
At this stage the identity of the deceased is unknown. However, police are now investigating a case of murder.
