On Friday evening, 10 December 2021, a murder suspect was discovered hiding in Lennoxton, doing his best to avoid detection. His presence, however, did not go unnoticed by law enforcement.

Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team’s Imran Ghafoor explains, “On 05 December 2021, there was a murder that occurred in Madadeni Section 1 and a case was opened. After the murder occurred, the suspect ran away to Johannesburg.”

Amajuba ISI began tracking down the suspect immediately. During this time, Ghafoor says that information surfaced that the suspect arrived back in Newcastle on Friday, 10 December 2021.

The criminal’s safe house was located and monitored all night. Following this, law enforcement apprehended the man in the early hours of Saturday, 11 December 2021.

While the exact motive for the murder is unknown at this time, the suspect’s weapon has been identified as a screwdriver, according to Ghafoor. “It was suspected that a sharp weapon was used in the crime. After the suspect was taken into custody, he admitted to using a screwdriver.”

With further investigations underway, Ghafoor thanks the following individuals and organisations for their assistance in apprehending the suspect:

  • Amajuba District Task Team (Sergeant A.Singh, and Constable Levono).
  • Madadeni Rapid Response Team (Sergeant Mlambo).
  • Newcastle Crimefighter Task Team (Imran, Ismail, Asif, A.Ghafoor, Ghazi)
  • Anti hijacking unit.
