The Newcastle Municipality continues to prioritise youth education, ensuring local youth reach their full potential.

Continuing assisting local youth, on Friday, 25 March 2022, Newcastle’s Deputy Mayor Cllr Musa Thwala, Speaker of Council Cllr Thengi Zulu, in partnership with MTN Foundation, presented state of the art iPads to Newcastle’s top 10 matric achievers.

The iPads come with 3-Gigs of monthly data to help the learners further excel in academics.

During the handover, the Deputy Mayor highlighted the importance of education and the municipality’s commitment to supporting promising students from Newcastle.

Cllr Thwala said, “As the Newcastle Municipality, we have tasked ourselves to prioritise education. We have taken it upon ourselves to continue to find new and effective ways to assist the youth in our communities. We extend a hand of gratitude to MTN for their relentless efforts of assisting young people with the state-of-the-art gadgets. We are calling for our achievers to use these iPads to empower themselves so that they can be competitive in the academic space.”

Speaking on behalf of the MTN Foundation, Nkanyiso Chonco congratulated the students on their outstanding performance during the trying times of COVID-19 and many other social ills affecting communities.

Chonco said that MTN is committed to making a sustainable difference in their communities. He also emphasised the company’s commitment to caring for bright young minds.

The Newcastle Municipality, together with MTN, wished the students well as they pursued their respective academic careers.
