As the Zulu nation waits for the new king to be proclaimed, the Royal Family has announced, Her Majesty Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu will act as Regent of the Zulu Nation during the interregnum.
This announcement was made on Wednesday, 24 March 2020, by the Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Monarch, Nation and Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi. With King Goodwill Zwelithini’s Will read in the presence of more than 200 members of the Royal Family, Prince Buthelezi said, “In line with the wishes of His Majesty the King, the Family would like to announce that Her Majesty Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu will act as Regent of the Zulu Nation during the interregnum.”
While Her Majesty is the de facto Regent, further decisions on the Zulu monarchy’s succession will not be announced until the Family’s mourning period has been observed. Prince Buthelezi explained, “The loss of His Majesty the King has been a tremendous blow, and the Family must be allowed to grieve.”

This decision of Queen Mother Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu being Regent squarely shows that she is holding the fort for her son as the heir apparent to the throne of Zulu Kingdom.
