A Sandton man has been reported missing following his arrest in Mooi River after allegedly being found in possession of five sticks of dynamite.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) confirmed that the man’s wife approached their offices on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, seeking urgent assistance in tracing her husband, identified as Thabo Khoza.
According to information provided by Khoza’s wife, he is employed at a mine in Mpumalanga and had been travelling to Durban on Friday when he was stopped at a roadblock. During the stop, police allegedly discovered five sticks of dynamite in a bag stored in the boot of his vehicle, leading to his immediate arrest.
“The wife added that Khoza informed her that he was detained at Mooi River SAPS in KZN and that police were demanding monies for his release. She further stated that since the arrest, she had paid monies via e-wallet on four occasions, totalling R3200 to a man identifying himself as a Sergeant at Mooi River SAPS,” stated RUSA, which also reported that Khoza’s wife grew increasingly alarmed when he was not released despite these payments.
However, RUSA has since contacted the Mooi River SAPS and confirmed that no record of a detainee named Thabo Khoza appears in the official Detention Register.
Given the seriousness of the matter, RUSA has issued an appeal to the public to assist in establishing Khoza’s whereabouts. Members of the public who may have seen him or who possess any information, no matter how minor it may appear, are urged to immediately report it to their nearest police station or contact RUSA.
