Newcastle residents are formally advised to prepare for potential water disruptions on Thursday, 21 August 2025. This follows the Newcastle Municipality notifying residents and businesses that Eskom will carry out essential maintenance on the electrical infrastructure supplying the municipality’s pump station, a step critical to maintaining the reliability of Newcastle’s water network.

According to the Newcastle Municipality’s Communications Unit, the scheduled Eskom maintenance will directly affect the municipality’s capacity to pump water, potentially causing temporary interruptions to the water supply.
The work is scheduled from 08:00 to 18:00 on Thursday and will involve the Kilbarchan Network Breaker 1, 11kV Line Bay, which provides power to the uThukela Water (Pty) Ltd/Att K Pretorius service point. As a result, the water treatment plant will be non-operational during this period.
The Communications Unit emphasised, “Residents and businesses in Newcastle East and West schemes may experience disruptions to their water supply during the scheduled maintenance period. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work with Eskom to maintain and improve the electrical infrastructure that serves our community.”
Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to plan accordingly for the temporary water supply disruption. Taking practical measures, such as storing sufficient water in advance, will help manage the impact on daily routines and essential activities during the maintenance period.
