Adding to the already grime image of the Newcastle industrial area, a violent crime erupted along Stephenson Street in the Riverside Industrial area during the early hours of Saturday morning, 2 November 2024, resulting in one man’s tragic death and another left fighting for his life.
The incident occurred around 1:30 am on Saturday near the Stephenson Street bridge, where a man and his companion were walking along the road when they were violently attacked by a group of unidentified assailants.
According to police reports confirmed by Newcastle SAPS Spokesperson Lizzy Arumugam, the attackers allegedly intended to rob the two men. However, the situation escalated violently, with one man being stabbed four times in the stomach and another five stab wounds to his back. Due to his injuries, the victim died at the scene, while his friend, gravely wounded with five stab wounds in his back, was rushed to Madadeni Hospital for urgent medical attention.
In the wake of this violent robbery, law enforcement wasted no time, promptly opening a case of murder and attempted murder. As a result, Arumugam noted that the Newcastle SAPS is currently conducting investigations into the incident.
Furthermore, Imran Ghafoor from the Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team revealed that following the brutal assault, crucial information about the suspect was received. The Crime Fighter Task Team joined forces with Newcastle SAPS to carry out the arrest.
“He admitted to his crime and took the operational team to where he had disposed of the murder weapon,” Ghafoor stated, highlighting the quick action taken by the police. Arumugam confirmed that the knife recovered from the scene bore blood.
Subsequent investigations led police to the suspect’s home, where they uncovered a blood-stained shirt he had worn during the crime, further solidifying the evidence against him. While one suspect remains in custody, Arumugam assured the public that further investigations are ongoing.
In light of this savage attack on the two men, what are your thoughts on the matter?

This is another example of people in the community reporting bollywood style to the media to promote themselves in the community. Newcastle sees what you are doing. There is no need for so called “crime fighters” to take advantage of a tragedy to promote themselves. This was a simple case to solve as the suspect was well known.
Crime is so rife in south africa one just has to do what you can with the tools that you have eg guns and informants to eradicate these evil people
