Onlookers stood in shock, watching emergency personnel tend to two injured men following a serious accident on Drakensberg Drive, Newcastle.
Transpiring at around 12 pm on Wednesday afternoon, 3 April 2024, the driver of a bakkie was travelling down Drakensberg Drive from the direction of Ncandu Park, reportedly heading towards the old Monte Vista Casino.
“He came down with speed and I don’t think he realised there was a bend in the road until it was too late,” explained a witness at the scene. The woman described how, upon hitting the embankment in the middle of the road, the driver lost control of his vehicle.
The bakkie launched into the oncoming traffic lane before crashing onto the pavement on the opposite side of the road.
Furthermore, paramedics from Magenta Emergency Medical Services and KwaZulu Private Ambulance arrived within minutes and tended to the two injured men, both of whom had sustained serious injuries.
