Over the next few days, the Newcastle Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Newcastle Police will be hosting a series of meetings throughout the various suburbs.

Due to crime continually developing and a need for solutions, Newcastillians are invited to attend these meetings in order to bring concerns forward while learning which crimes are most prevalent in their respective areas.

On Sunday, 6 March 2022, the CPF will be hosting a public meeting at the Arbor Park Sports Grounds.

The meeting starts at 2 pm, focusing on crime in the area and electing a CPF structure for Arbor Park.

This will be followed by a separate meeting at the Total Garage on Murchison Street.

This meeting will get going at 3.30 pm. A CPF Committee for Sector One will be elected from either Paradise, Light Industrial or the CBD.

Newcastle CPS’s Rajesh Ramdaw explains that housebreakings and pickpocketing are among the most prevalent crimes in these said areas.

In order to ensure that the problem is tackled correctly, and to reduce crime in the respective areas, he explains, “It is important for the community to get involved in policing and to also be the eyes and ears of the local police.”

By becoming actively involved, Ramdaw believes residents can assist in making Newcastle a safer place.

On Monday, 7 March 2022, the CPF will be holding a public meeting alongside Newcastle’s SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier Leon Matthysen, for residents living in Sector 3.

Sector 3 consists of:

  • Aviary Hill
  • Pioneer Park
  • Signal Hill
  • Hutten Heights
  • Barry Hertzog Park
  • Amajuba Park
  • Amiel Park
  • Schuinshoogte
  • Sunny Ridge

With the event taking place at the Pines Wedding and Conference Village from 7 pm, Brigadier Leon Matthysen states that it is essential that the community get involved in the policing of their respective sectors.

“It is important to attend meetings such as these, showing community participation and we can help people to get a better understanding of community policing.”

Be sure to attend the meeting for your area as crime impacts us all!
