Newcastle Municipality has issued an urgent notice to the community, warning Newcastillians of flooding in the area.
Residents need to note the following: Umfolozi Avenue, Ncandu Park, is closed due to Amcor Dam overflowing onto the road. Therefore, the Municipality’s Head of Communications, Mlungisi Khumalo, states traffic is now being diverted from Umfolozi Avenue.
Moreover, the Newcastle Municipality highlights, the taxi holding area on Sutherland Street is flooded, as is Paradise C Grounds.
Acting Municipal Manager, Vish Govender states, “As a listening and caring municipality, the safety of our town’s people is imperative.”
Therefore, he urges community members to contact the Municipal Protection Services or the Community Safety Disaster Management Unit if their safety is compromised due to the inclement weather.
The Municipality has also placed its disaster management team on alert, should the need arise. Residents are also encouraged to practise caution when travelling due to large puddle on the roads
