
In the pursuit of justice, police officers are often in the forefront to protect their respective communities. Yet, there are those who abuse their position of power.
This follows police officers being implicated in obtaining alcohol and contravening the COVID-19 regulations.
In Mpumalanga, two police officers were arrested on Friday, April 10, The arrest comes after the state vehicle they were travelling in was stopped and found to be illegally escorting three bakkies filled with alcohol. The three bakkies allegedly belonging to a tavern owner.
The tavern owner and the two officers were promptly taken into custody.
In a separate incident, a joint operation between the police detectives from Montagu, Bonnievale and Worcester in the Western Cape has led to the arrest of seven police officers. The officers were taken into custody for allegedly obtaining liquor.
According to reports, the police officials allegedly faked a complaint of a burglar alarm and a housebreaking at liquor premises in Bonnievale.
They have been detained at the police station in Montagu.They also face a charge of defeating the ends of justice.
In yet another incident, two officers from the Delft Family Violence, Child Protection Offences Unit in the Western Cape, were arrested with a liquor store manager and cashier.
This follows police responding to information and finding the officers inside the store, buying liquor which was allegedly going to be resold illegally.
Police Minister, General Bheki Cele has issued a stern warning to those who continue undermining the efforts of the government. He emphasises they will be found and dealt with decisively.
