A long weekend is an ideal time to break away from your usual routine and unwind. However, for a Paradise resident, this long weekend turned out to be anything but peaceful.

On Monday, September 24, a resident took his canoe out onto the Ncandu River. Enjoying the peaceful waters and ideal weather conditions, his excursion took a turn for the worst when he discovered what looked like a body.

He returned to shore and immediately contacted Two Eagles Security. The resident then took staff from the security company out on the river. It was then confirmed the resident’s discovery was indeed a body.

The SAPS were contacted. “A big thanks must go out to Colonel Smanga Ntombela and his team for their swift response,”  says Mark Jacobs of Two Eagles Security.

Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube, says the unidentified man is between 25 years and 30 years of age.

A source on the scene speculates the victim has been in the water for approximately a month.

The exact cause of his death is still unknown and further police investigations continue.
