In the quest for bringing about total equality for girls, Haseena and Shameema Patel are on a mission to empower the fairer sex.
“Many are likely to think girls get equal opportunities. However, they are put down as being weaker than boys,” says Haseena. This is done through phrases such as: “You throw like a girl!” of “Don’t cry like a girl.
How are the two sisters intending to address gender inequality?

As the driving force behind the Leave No Girl Behind International (LNGBI), they are planning a leadership programme targeted at girls from 12 years to 18 years. The event will take place on August 18 at St Dominics Newcastle, from 10am to 2pm.
This leadership programme is more than encouraging girls to live their lives.
“We are going to help them break through their fears and gain self-confidence,” explains Shameema.
Furthermore, Haseena says there will be presentations and group discussions. Girls will discover tools and techniques to overcome perceived limitations society has on them. “We want to see girls use their voices to inspire solutions in their lives.”
With August earmarked as Woman’s Month, this programme is sure to assist girls in making their voices heard. “The purpose of the day is so girls can discover and embrace their voices, while respecting themselves and others,” Haseena explains.
