The impact left one of the vehicles extensively damaged along the roadside. The second vehicle veered off the carriageway, where it caught alight and burned, leaving behind a charred shell.

Emergency services responded to the scene; however, despite their efforts, six people were declared dead at the scene.

A seventh person sustained critical injuries and was transported to hospital for urgent medical treatment, where they remain under close observation.

Authorities are currently managing the scene, with recovery and clearance operations still underway.

Motorists travelling along the R34 are urged to reduce speed, exercise caution, and remain alert when approaching the affected stretch of road.

As investigators work to determine what led to the collision, the scale of the loss is already being felt beyond the roadside, with families and communities now left to absorb the sudden tragedy.

  1. I was almost in a serious accident like this last week. People do not care about the rosd rules any more. The taxi overtook me in mist while i was driving behind a truck. I could not overtake due to the mist. But he pushed his luck the first time and was almost taken out and i would have been involved. Then he went for the second time and that one was freaking me out. I actually slowed down to avoid being in volved. I am not saying this is what happend here. The driver at fault will always try and squese him self oit being in the right. Would love to know what happend here. Our roads is not safe anymore.

    1. There’s an absolute disregard for the rules of the road and people are absolutely inconsiderate.
One of the main reasons is because of bribery and corruption.
Bribe your way out of anything.
      Rotten to the absolute core

    2. There’s a huge pothole exactly where the accident occurred, please be careful guys.

  3. The root cause is ineffective, insufficient enforcement of the Road Ordinance Act, the traffic police are nowhere to be seen at ‘high accident zones’, the R34, Memel road is notorious for high speeding, overtaking on solid lines and overloading of passengers.
