More than a month has passed since an unidentified man was found dazed and alone in a veld in Arbor Park, Newcastle, before being transported to Madadeni Regional Hospital for medical assistance.
Despite ongoing efforts, his identity remains unknown, and no relatives, friends or acquaintances have come forward.
The man was admitted to Madadeni Regional Hospital on 8 May 2026 after being discovered in the veld, where he had reportedly been sitting for approximately two days.
At the time, he was visibly disorientated and unable to provide his name, surname, address, or any personal details that could assist hospital staff in establishing who he is.
Addressing the matter, Madadeni Regional Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Mrs H. Khanyi, confirmed that the hospital has been unable to trace the man’s next of kin due to the lack of identifying information available at the time of his admission.
“There were no contact details of next of kin provided on admission. We could have visited the physical address, however, unfortunately there were no details provided which made that exercise impossible for tracing relatives, family and friends. The only information on our records is that he was found in a bush in Arbor Park, Newcastle, where he had been sitting there for two days confused,” stated Madadeni Regional Hospital’s CEO.
With no verifiable personal information and no immediate leads, the hospital has now turned to the public for assistance.
Furthermore, identification efforts have been complicated by the fact that the man’s condition has prevented the release of his image to the public. This has limited the usual avenues available to authorities and hospital staff when attempting to identify a person who cannot speak for themselves or provide personal details.
Nevertheless, hospital authorities are urging anyone who may have information to come forward, noting that even a small detail could help reunite the man with his family, friends, or community.
“Should any person have any information which could assist us in reuniting the client with his relatives, family and friends, they are urged to contact our Public Relations Officer on 034 328 8043/8133 or email [email protected],” concluded Mrs Khanyi.

With no identification, no known address, and no relatives having come forward, the case now depends on whether someone within Newcastle or the broader community can help establish who the man is.
Therefore, anyone with information is urged to contact Madadeni Regional Hospital’s Public Relations Officer on 034 328 8043 / 034 328 8133 or email [email protected].
