Law enforcement agencies are searching for a Ladysmith resident accused of stealing from his employer in Brindhaven, KwaZulu-Natal, before allegedly going on the run.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), a Verulam-based private security and emergency response company, the suspect had been temporarily living in Parkgate, where he previously worked as a security officer before taking up employment at a fresh produce business in Brindhaven.
Independent. Unbiased. Human.
RUSA alleges that 42-year-old Mfanafuthi Zwelakhe Phakathi, who had been assigned delivery duties for the business, stole more than R6,000 from one of the company’s delivery vehicles and then disappeared.
The matter has since been reported to the South African Police Service. Confirming the case, RUSA stated:
“A criminal case has been registered via Verulam SAPS Cas 14/04/2026.”
Investigators believe Phakathi, who is also known as “Fana”, is originally from Ezakheni, near Ladysmith.

Authorities are now appealing to the public for assistance.
Anyone who may have seen Phakathi or has information on his whereabouts is urged to contact RUSA on 086 123 4333 or email [email protected].
As the search continues, authorities have stressed the value of public cooperation in helping track suspects who move between areas in an effort to evade arrest.
