As the weekend approaches, residents of Newcastle, Ladysmith, and Vryheid in KwaZulu-Natal can look forward to a welcome change from recent conditions. Cooler air, widespread showers, and thunderstorms are set to move in.

The South African Weather Service attributes this pattern to a cold front followed by a ridging high-pressure system.

These systems are expected to generate scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms across much of the province. While most areas will see activity, SAWS notes that severe storms are more likely over the majority of KwaZulu-Natal, excluding the north-east.

Such storms often carry heavy downpours, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and hail. In light of this, SAWS has issued a Level 4 Warning for Severe Thunderstorms. The service urges vigilance, particularly as Friday’s weather could cause flooding on roads and bridges, as well as in formal and informal settlements.

Here is a focused look at AccuWeather’s three-day forecast specifically for the three towns in question.
