Discussing the circumstances, an official source on the scene remarked;

“While we still need to fully establish what happened, the taxi was allegedly taking school children to a primary school in the area when the crash happened.”

According to the taxi driver, he had been travelling along Drakensberg Drive and was just about to pass the Pick n Pay shopping centre, heading towards Drakensberg Primary School, when the vehicles collided. Recalling the moment of impact, he stated:

“I was just driving, when the car started turning into John Parks, I tried blowing my taxi’s horn, and attempted to swerve, but it was too late, and we collided.”

While the Suzuki was brought to an abrupt halt upon impact, the taxi driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle.

This loss of control, attributed to the force of the strike and the driver’s subsequent attempt to swerve, resulted in the taxi crossing into the lane of oncoming traffic.

Despite the wreckage, paramedics on the scene confirmed that no physical injuries were sustained. However, the driver of the Suzuki was treated for shock, while the parents of the children in the taxi arrived promptly to collect their children.

As emergency personnel concluded their work at the scene, officials urged motorists to exercise heightened caution and remain vigilant of their surroundings.

By strictly adhering to traffic regulations and maintaining awareness during peak school-run hours, drivers can play a vital role in ensuring road safety and preventing further incidents within the community.

  1. This is a common occurrence.Taxi drivers are a law unto themselves. No regard for other motorists. I witness their reckless behaviour on a daily basis. Until road traffic laws are enforced and adhered to, nothing will change. Unfortunately we have an absence of traffic officers in our town.

  2. Was the Taxi registered for Scholar transport?
    Was the Taxi driver in possesion of the required permits ?
