Addressing the arrest of the two suspects, KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza explained that, earlier on Saturday, members of the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit received credible intelligence regarding a vehicle allegedly transporting drugs between Madadeni and Osizweni.

Acting on this information, and following preliminary verification, an operational plan was implemented to intercept the vehicle. Moreover, SAPS officials were, assisted by private security officers during the operation.

“After hours of observation, the targeted vehicle was spotted and successfully stopped. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered a bag containing various kinds of drugs including rock cocaine, mandrax and crystal meth. Two occupants of the vehicle, a man and a woman, were immediately placed under arrest and charged for possession and dealing in drugs,” said Colonel Magwaza.

Police have since confirmed that investigations remain ongoing.

However, at this stage, authorities have not indicated whether the suspects are linked to other cases, nor whether additional arrests may follow as a result of the operation.

As the investigation progresses, the matter is expected to proceed through the courts, where the evidence gathered during the operation will be tested in accordance with due process and the rule of law.

The ability of the South African Police Service to greatly reduce supply in a town where drugs are readily available , will be a powerful solution to this endless problem. Hopefully, this bust is a step in that direction.
