January KZN dam levels

According to the latest available data released by the Department of Water and Sanitation, the KZN’s dams remain in a generally healthy condition. Recent rainfall has played a significant role in replenishing water reserves, with the majority of dams recording stable or improved levels.

This positive trend provides reassurance amid ongoing climate volatility, although authorities continue to urge responsible water usage.

Overall, the latest dam level data paints a reassuring picture for KwaZulu-Natal, particularly against the backdrop of increasingly erratic weather patterns. While minor fluctuations have been recorded across several dams, the province’s key water storage systems remain stable, reflecting the positive impact of recent rainfall.

This relative stability offers a measure of confidence for both residents and authorities tasked with safeguarding water security in the months ahead.

However, experts continue to caution that short-term improvements should not overshadow the long-term challenges posed by climate variability and rising demand.

Sustained investment, without corruption, in water infrastructure, responsible consumption, and proactive planning will remain essential to ensure that KwaZulu-Natal is able to withstand future dry spells and extreme weather events without compromising supply or service delivery.

  1. I can seriously not understand how just about all the dams except Chelmsford is sitting at 100+% capacity.Coʻuld this be because of the sluice gate which has to dat still not been repaired or not correctly repaired or what would the reason be?We surely have had sufficient rain to have filled the dam to capacity? Would love to have someone explain this please!!?
