A motorist was rushed to hospital on Wednesday morning, 8 October 2025, following a serious collision on Madadeni Road (P483) near the Newcastle Landfill Site.

According to officials who responded to the scene, the motorist had been travelling along the route from the direction of Newcastle on Wednesday afternoon.

“While it is not exactly clear what led to the incident, it seems as though the motorist lost control of his vehicle as he was navigating the bend near the landfill site,” said a paramedic on the site.

After losing control, the motorist’s bakkie veered off the roadway and rolled down the embankment before coming to a standstill. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle’s canopy to detach, scattering the grocery items he had been transporting across the scene.

Furthermore, officials explained that, before paramedics could render medical assistance, the man’s family—concerned for his condition—had already transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent care.

While the accident scene has since been cleared, authorities are urging motorists to drive with heightened caution, particularly along winding sections of the road.

They emphasised the importance of adhering to posted speed limits, maintaining full concentration behind the wheel, and avoiding any form of reckless driving that could lead to similar incidents.

As traffic volumes continue to rise across Newcastle and surrounding areas, authorities continue to stress that responsible driving remains essential to preventing further incidents and ensuring the safety of all road users.
