A murder unfolded on Thursday night, 31 July 2025, when members of the Newcastle South African Police Service responded to a crime scene in Schuinshoogte, where the body of a 63-year-old man was discovered lying in a pool of blood. The victim, whose face bore clear signs of a brutal assault, had been attacked in his workshop, where he operated his motor repair business.

According to Amajuba District SAPS spokesperson, Constable Nonjabulo Langa, the deceased’s daughter informed officers that, at approximately 20:05, she received a call from her cousin inquiring about her father’s whereabouts, as he had failed to arrive at a planned meeting earlier in the day.
“He informed her that he had been trying to get a hold of the deceased on the phone to no avail. Afterward, she and her mother went to her father’s place to check on him. Upon arrival, they found the gate locked, which she unlocked. She further found the kitchen door open which was amiss as it was late to leave the door open. She then went into her father’s workshop in search of him. This is where she found him lying on the floor in a pool of blood between two cars,” explained Constable Langa.
Adding to the gravity of the discovery, the victim’s cellphone was located in his bedroom, alongside a ten-pound hammer stained with blood and a sum of money placed on a side table.
Constable Langa also confirmed that the deceased possessed firearm safes—one of which had a broken key lodged in its lock, while the other remained undisturbed.
Further investigation revealed that two DVR devices had been stolen from the premises—one connected to the house and the other to the workshop. “The suspects are currently at large. We urge anyone with information to please contact Newcastle SAPS acting Detectives Commander Lieutenant Colonel S Singh,” concluded Constable Langa.

As investigations continue and police search for those responsible, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Newcastillian News extends its deepest condolences to the loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.
