According to the latest report from the Department of Water and Sanitation, most dams in KwaZulu-Natal remain at healthy capacities, with only minor fluctuations observed despite the peak of the dry season. Below is a detailed overview of the current state of the province’s dams:

  • Albert Falls Dam’s water level stands at 99.9%, a marginal decrease from last week’s reading of 100.1%.
  • Bivane Dam maintains a steady level at 100.7%, unchanged from the previous week.
  • Craigie Burn Dam remains stable at 100.4%, showing no change from last week’s measurement.
  • Driel Barrage Dam has experienced a notable decline, currently at 88.7%, down from 91.8% the previous week.
  • Goedertouw Dam recorded a slight reduction, now at 98.8% compared to last week’s 99%.
  • Hazelemere Dam’s water level is at 101.9%, a minor drop from the previous week’s 102%.
  • Hluhluwe Dam has seen a modest increase, rising from 99.3% to 99.4%.
  • Inanda Dam’s water level is currently at 101.4%, a slight increase from last week’s 101.3%.
  • Klipfontein Dam remains steady at a robust 100.2%.
  • Mearns Dam has shown a significant rise, increasing from 65.6% last week to 72.1% this week.
  • Midmar Dam’s water levels are at 97.7%, a minor decrease from the previous week’s 97.8%.
  • Nagle Dam stands at 88%, a slight reduction from last week’s 88.2%.
  • Ntshingwayo Dam remains unchanged at a healthy 93.9%.
  • Pongolapoort Dam is currently at 95.8%, a marginal decrease from last week’s 95.9%.
  • Spioenkop Dam’s water levels have decreased from 97.4% last week to 96.3% this week.
  • Spring Grove Dam has experienced a minor drop, now at 94.9%, compared to the previous week’s 94.9%.
  • Wagendrift Dam’s water levels are at a robust 99.4%, slightly down from last week’s 99.5%.
  • Zaaihoek Dam remains steady at a healthy 100.5%.

Despite winter’s challenges, KwaZulu-Natal’s dams demonstrate resilience, with most maintaining high water levels. The recent rainfall has supported steady capacities, notably boosting Mearns Dam, though declines in dams like Driel Barrage highlight areas for monitoring.
