This comes as forecasts from the South African Weather Service (SAWS), supported by reputable sources such as AccuWeather and The Weather Channel, predict a high likelihood of precipitation throughout the province, posing potential risks to infrastructure and public safety.

Authorities and residents are urged to prepare diligently for possible disruptions as the weather system approaches.

Forecasts indicate that the cold front will initially strike the Western Cape on Thursday, 17 July 2025, with SAWS reporting a 60% chance of thundershowers in southwestern regions, such as Worcester. By Friday, 18 July 2025, the system will extend eastward, impacting KZN, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, and the Free State, with rainfall anticipated across these areas.

SAWS projects that precipitation will be significant in the northeastern provinces, including KZN, on Friday, with cooler conditions persisting into the weekend.

Additionally, forecasts from Snow Report Southern Africa indicate that Lesotho’s Maluti Mountains, particularly around Afriski, could see 2–5 cm of snow from Monday, 21 July 2025, to Wednesday, 23 July 2025, with temperatures dropping to as low as -5°C.

With colder temperatures, significant rainfall, and potential snow expected in KwaZulu-Natal and Lesotho, residents are urged to stay warm and safe by keeping informed through weather updates, wearing appropriate clothing, and taking necessary precautions to ensure personal safety during this period of inclement weather. For those in Lesotho, checking road conditions and preparing for potential snow-related disruptions is advised.
