KwaZulu-Natal should prepare for a week of diverse weather patterns, with a particular alert for coastal regions. The latest forecast, issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) spans Monday, 7 July 2025, to Sunday, 13 July 2025.

On Monday, 7 July 2025, the province will encounter partly cloudy to overcast conditions.
A transition to clearer, cooler, and occasionally cold weather is expected from Saturday onwards. However, an exception to this cooling trend is forecast for Friday, 11 July 2025, when warmer conditions will prevail in eastern areas, including Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
As per SAWS, isolated showers and rainfall are anticipated in northern regions, affecting towns such as Newcastle, Ladysmith, and Dundee, on the afternoon of Monday, 7 July 2025. These sporadic precipitation events will extend to the extreme north coast on Tuesday, 8 July 2025, impacting areas like Richards Bay, Ballito, and KwaDukuza, where partly cloudy skies will persist.
From Saturday, 12 July 2025, SAWS expects isolated showers and rain to spread across various parts of KwaZulu-Natal, affecting multiple towns and regions.
The SAWS marine forecast includes a critical warning for “Damaging Waves,” necessitating heightened vigilance for mariners and coastal communities along the entire KwaZulu-Natal coastline, from Port Edward to Kosi Bay.
According to SAWS, wind patterns will fluctuate over the coming days. On Monday, 7 July 2025, and again on Saturday, 12 July 2025, winds will predominantly blow from the south to southwest at speeds of 10 to 20 knots. On Thursday, 10 July 2025, and Friday, 11 July 2025, winds will shift to a north to northeast direction, maintaining similar speeds of 10 to 20 knots. Notably, on Saturday, 12 July 2025, SAWS expects southwesterly winds to intensify, with gusts potentially reaching up to 30 knots.
Furthermore, SAWS forecasts sea conditions with wave heights generally ranging between 2.0 and 3.0 metres.
However, a significant alert has been issued for Monday, 7 July 2025, and Saturday, 12 July 2025, when wave heights are expected to surge to 4.0 to 4.5 metres. This combination of elevated waves and strong wind gusts signals a severe risk of damaging waves, necessitating utmost caution for maritime activities and residents in coastal towns such as Durban, Margate, and St Lucia.

As KwaZulu-Natal navigates these dynamic weather conditions, particularly the heightened marine risks, SAWS urges residents to stay updated through official SAWS channels, as well as official and reliable media agencies, and adjust their plans to prioritise safety throughout the week.
