As the weekend dawns, a formidable blanket of inclement weather envelops South Africa, casting a chill over the KwaZulu-Natal region. Therefore, Newcastle, Ladysmith, and Vryheid residents need to prepare for brisk conditions, with gusty winds and plummeting temperatures.
A formidable cold front has begun to extend its grip across South Africa, making landfall over the south-western regions on 25 June 2025 and advancing eastward, prompting the South African Weather Service (SAWS) to issue multiple weather warnings and advisories.
These alerts highlight the risk of damaging winds across KwaZulu-Natal’s interior and coastal regions, with gusts up to 50 km/h, alongside potential snowfall in high-lying areas and disruptive wave heights of up to 6 metres along the Eastern Cape coastline, urging communities to remain vigilant and prepared for potential disruptions to infrastructure and transport networks.

Newcastle: A brisk day is anticipated, with temperatures expected to reach 15°C. Evening temperatures will plummet to a biting -2°C.

Vryheid: In line with its neighbouring towns of Newcastle and Ladysmith, a cool day is predicted, with temperatures reaching a high of 15°C. Evening temperatures are forecast to fall to a chilly 0°C.
Saturday, 28 June 2025:
Newcastle: While temperatures are expected to rise slightly, the town can anticipate a high of 18°C. Evening temperatures are forecast to remain at -1°C.
Ladysmith: A marginally warmer day is projected, with temperatures expected to reach 18°C. Evening temperatures are anticipated to be a chilly 1°C.
Vryheid: Another cold day is expected, with temperatures forecast to peak at 17°C. Evening temperatures are predicted to settle at a cool 2°C.
Sunday, 29 June 2025:
Newcastle: The cool weather persists, with daytime temperatures forecast to reach a high of 18°C. Evening temperatures are expected to drop to -1°C.
Ladysmith: A moderately warm yet cool day is anticipated, with temperatures projected to peak at 19°C. Night-time temperatures are forecast to plummet to a chilly 0°C.
Vryheid: The town can expect continued cold conditions, with temperatures forecast to reach a high of 18°C. Night-time temperatures are expected to fall to a low of 0°C.
