The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 1 Warning for severe thunderstorms impacting several KwaZulu-Natal towns and cities, starting Monday, 7 April 2025.

SAWS forecasts isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers across KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, with the weather expected to continue on Tuesday, 8 April 2025.
Moreover, the service warns that storms in the northern and southern extremes of the province may intensify, producing heavy rain, hail, strong winds, and frequent lightning.
The weather service further notes that these conditions could lead to localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas, and bridges. Damage to formal and informal settlements and infrastructure is also a concern, according to SAWS, alongside hazardous driving conditions caused by slippery roads.
Communities in the following areas should prepare for potential impacts:
· Newcastle
· Utrecht
· Vryheid
· Mooi River
· Ndwedwe
· eThekwini
· Greater Kokstad
· Richmond
· KwaDukuza
· The Msunduzi
· Giants Caste
· Pongola
· eDumbe
· Underberg
With two days of challenging weather ahead, SAWS advises residents in these regions to stay indoors when possible and avoid flood-prone roads, bridges, and low-lying areas. The service also recommends safeguarding pets, livestock, and vehicles against hail and lightning risks.

Be sure to stay safe and keep an eye on the news for any further updates on the subject.
