The Department of Health has launched an earnest appeal to locate the family of a woman who has resided at Madadeni Hospital for 16 years while contending with mental illness.

According to the Department, Letsoane Mayine is a patient at Madadeni Regional Hospital in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal.
Despite the complexities of her condition, the Department noted that Mayine has disclosed that she originates from Botha-Botha Village in Lesotho.

Although she cannot recollect the precise year of her arrival in South Africa, the Department has established that she was admitted to Madadeni Regional Hospital in 2009. Over the subsequent 16 years, she has remained within the hospital’s confines, devoid of any familial contact or visits. However, the Department confirmed her parents’ names were Thabo and Majaleng Mayine, offering a lead in this prolonged search.
Presently, with Mayine stationed at the hospital for her protection and ongoing care, the Department stated that it requires assistance from the public. They have designated Mr Gumede, the Social Worker at Madadeni Hospital, as the point of contact, reachable at 034 328 8290/8043 or 068 321 8383.
