A motorist avoided serious injury on Tuesday morning, 23 July 2024, after his bakkie and two buses collided on Albert Wessels Drive, Newcastle.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 am as the motorist was driving along Albert Wessels Drive, coming from the direction of Madadeni and heading towards the industrial area.
According to an official source, the chain of events began when a bus travelling in front of the bakkie suddenly stopped. “The motorist then stopped as well, when a bus driving behind the bakkie crashed into him,” the source reported.
The force of the impact from the larger vehicle caused the bakkie to collide with the bus in front, resulting in extensive damage to the bakkie. Despite being sandwiched between the two buses, Charles Steyn of Magenta Emergency Medical Services confirmed that the motorist miraculously sustained no injuries.
Following this incident, emergency personnel are urging all motorists to exercise caution on the roads and to remain aware of other vehicles.

These buses are an extreme hazard especially on Murchison street and Kirkland streets in the morning and afternoon.they simply ignore traffic rules
These bus drivers are very reckless drivers, speeding, not coming to a full stop at Stop streets and Robots in the town as well as the Industrial area. I have personally had to avoid near collisions weekly. The drivers simply wave to say “sorry”. The problem seems to be that the bus companies are protected by politicians who have influence over law enforcement.
