The ordeal unfolded shortly before 7:30 am when a bakkie and two cars collided.

While the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear, the extent of the collision saw emergency personnel rushing to the scene. Paramedics, police officials, traffic officers, firefighters, and tow truck staff worked in unison to assist the injured.

The bakkie was found situated in the centre of the road while one car was left severely damaged on the side of the road, and the third vehicle had rolled down the embankment due to the impact of the crash.

With debris from the collision scattered across the road and the wreckages of the vehicles bearing testimony to the severity of the incident, emergency personnel found themselves contending against time to assist those on the scene while working to clear the area to avoid any further potential incidents.

An official police source on the scene stated, “One person unfortunately passed away due to their injuries, while six others were injured. The full extent of their injuries is still to be confirmed by medics after they have finalised assisting the patients.”

One of the six injured patients was reported to be in critical condition.

As emergency personnel attended to the scene, traffic flow along the N11 was hampered due to the work being put into clearing the scene and treating the injured. The crash will now be subject to further investigations.
