Taking place just after 7 am, the crash occurred when a Toyota emerging from Amethyst Drive collided with a Hyundai Atos travelling down Drakensberg Drive.

The Hyundai driver, visibly shaken by the incident, described her attempt to evade the collision. “The vehicle just came out of Amethyst Drive, and I tried to swerve, but the vehicle hit my car and pushed me into the other lane, where I hit another car and a bakkie then hit the car which I crashed into,” said the tearful woman.

Collaborating statements from other drivers supported the Hyundai Atos driver’s account. The driver of the bakkie pointed at the man driving the Toyota was responsible for the crash and stated the driver of the Atos had indeed attempted to swerve out of the way. However, the driver of the Toyota, while acknowledging the accident, chose not to provide additional details.

Emergency services, including Magenta Emergency Medical Services and TRIVS Medical Services, responded to the scene. Paramedics attended to the injured, offering medical assistance and support to the injured children and woman.

Emergency personnel efficiently managed traffic and worked towards clearing the crash site, preventing potential further incidents and ensuring the safety of those in the vicinity.

  1. The intersection at Amethyst Drive and Drakensberg Drive is notorious. People who use Drakensberg Drive often will know that drivers exiting from Amethyst Drive, very seldom stop, or even yield.
They drive how they want, with no regard for vehicles who have right of way in Drakensberg Drive. Our Traffic Department should maybe attend to that intersection, and if they remove their hands from their pockets, and issue traffic fines, I am sure they can make their annual budget in a week. That particular intersection was an accident waiting to happen.

    1. High Speedbumps or robot to be installed, but this is a dangerous intersection, not even mentioning the unlawfully parking right at the intersection to visit tuckshop. Also if busses turns into Amethyst Street they cross over the middel of the road obstructing oncoming vehicles.
