The ribbon cutting ceremony marked a momentous occasion, with Mediclinic Newcastle’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr Mohamed Ali Khan underscoring the unit’s establishment as a testament to the remarkable growth of Mediclinic Newcastle over the past decade.

He credited the unwavering dedication of the facility’s team, whose tireless efforts have significantly contributed to serving the community.

“The High Care Unit will place focus on surgical patients, complementing Mediclinic Newcastle’s commitment to enhancing its facilities and specialist services for Newcastle and its surrounding communities,” explained Dr Khan

Highlighting the unit’s capacity expansion, Dr Khan further said that, with the current Intensive Care Unit boasting 12 beds and the newly introduced High Care Unit featuring an additional eight beds, more patients would benefit from top tier medical treatment available at Mediclinic Newcastle.

Furthermore, Japie Greyling, the Hospital General Manager, emphasised the institution’s ongoing strategy to recruit top specialists.

Greyling expressed that the new High Care Unit would play a pivotal role in ensuring patients have access to high quality medical assistance without the need for extensive travel.

Dr Khan reiterated, “The community needs to understand that the service provided at Mediclinic Newcastle is among the best there is, as we adhere to global standards and match these global benchmarks.”

Underlining their commitment to community wellbeing, both Greyling and Dr Khan affirmed that the High Care Unit symbolises Mediclinic Newcastle’s dedication to delivering superior medical assistance for the various communities under their care.

Additionally, Greyling discussed the project’s journey, revealing that the decision to establish the High Care Unit commenced in 2019.

“But then COVID happened, and it took a back seat. Then in November of last year, the unit’s plans were approved,” said Greyling.
