This follows Brigadier Naidoo, leading the charge in a mission to eradicate crime from Newcastle, initiating a collaborative effort to make the city’s streets safe again.

On Friday, 3 November 2023, a dedicated team of police officers, in partnership with members of the Newcastle Community Policing Forum, the Newcastle Chinese Community, the Police Cooperation Centre, and security company Optimus Protection Services descended upon the city’s Central Business District (CBD). The various teams performed stop and search operations while boosting police presence in the heart of Newcastle.

“This will be part of our festive season operations, but it won’t stop there. The Newcastle police, CPFs, and security companies are committed to an ongoing effort to ensure that Newcastle’s streets are safe for law abiding community members,” said Brigadier Naidoo.

During the operation on Friday, the law enforcement team showed no leniency towards offenders, leading to the apprehension of nine suspects in just one hour.

Among the detained individuals was a wanted suspect, while three others found themselves in custody for the possession of illegal drugs. Another suspect was taken into police custody for carrying a dangerous weapon, while four accompanying individuals were detained for profiling. The profiling procedure is aimed at determining whether they are connected to other crimes, given their proximity to illicit items.

With a united front against crime, Brigadier Naidoo assured Newcastle citizens that more operations would follow, whereby he issued a stern warning to criminals stating that little leniency would be extended to them.

As the initiative gains momentum, we invite readers to share their thoughts on this development in the comment section below. Newcastle is poised for a resurgence in safety, thanks to the collaborative efforts of its law enforcement agencies and community partners.

  1. Welldone Brig. Naidoo and welcome to Newcastle.
I think you need ro get Captain De Waal out of his office and him and his members should be on the streets and have regular crime operations and arrest some of the criminals and vagrants. POC operations should be done on a daily basis.
I know this as I was a member myself.
    Great day.
    Koos Venter.
