A positive atmosphere of camaraderie filled the Arbor Park Sports Grounds on Wednesday, 6 September 2023, as police officials came together for a day of laughter, team building, and community service.

The event aimed to make the Social Crime Prevention program an unforgettable experience, focusing on fostering strong bonds among officers from various stations within the Amajuba SAPS cluster, including Newcastle, Madadeni, Normandien, and Utrecht.
Captain Jabulani Ncube elaborated on the initiative, explaining that police officers began their day at Sathya Sai Primary School, where they aimed to raise awareness among students about the perils of crime and the importance of cooperation with law enforcement in creating a safer society.
Following their school visit, the law enforcement officials gathered at Arbor Park Sports Grounds to shift their focus towards fun and unity. Activities included a 5km fun walk/fun run, a potjiekos competition, aerobics, netball, and soccer. These physical activities not only allowed officers from different departments and stations to enjoy each other’s company but also showcased a softer side of the local law enforcement teams.
Lizzy Arumugam, the spokesperson for Newcastle SAPS, further highlighted that the officers took time to visit several underprivileged families in Madadeni, distributing food parcels as part of their community outreach efforts.
Adding to this, Amajuba District SAPS Commissioner General Fred Alexander said, “The high-density operations which we have been conducting have had a positive impact on crime, but addressing social issues and promoting fitness is also important to us.”
With law enforcement officers building stronger connections among themselves and with their community, residents are encouraged to share their thoughts on this initiative in the comments section below.
