The Myeni family of Utrecht is still in anguish as they await the opportunity to lay their beloved Snegugu Ntobeko Myeni to rest, as her mortal remains are yet to be returned.
Newcastillian News highlighted the heart-wrenching situation on 20 July 2023, reporting that the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government had originally announced that Snegugu’s body would be repatriated to her family by Saturday, 22 July 2023.
Unfortunately, this timeline has not materialised, leaving the family in continued sorrow.
Despite the setback, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government emphasises that preparations for the repatriation of Snegugu’s mortal remains are in an advanced stage.
The tragic incident occurred when Snegugu Myeni, a final-year medical student studying in the Philippines, passed away at the airport on 10 July 2023, just as she was about to board a plane back to South Africa.
In the quest to bring Snegugu home to her family, the provincial government has been diligently collaborating with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and the Ambassador of South Africa to the Philippines to expedite the repatriation efforts.
Moreover, the government institute issued a statement, saying, “The initial expected date of the arrival of Snegugu’s mortal remains in the country was Saturday, 22 July 2023. However, we are still awaiting a final letter from the attending doctor in the Philippines to finalise the repatriation of Snegugu’s mortal remains.”
Despite the delay, the provincial government remains hopeful that the necessary medical processes will be concluded expeditiously. They offer comforting words to the Myeni family, assuring them that significant progress has already been made to ensure that Snegugu’s remains will be brought home with the dignity and respect she deserves.
