Newcastle’s Dr Sandile Qwabe, the newest viral social media sensation

Dr Sandile Qwabe, Madadeni Hospital

Being formal in nature, hospitals and doctors are often seen as serious entities. But a medical professional, hailing from Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal has taken social media by storm due to his unique behaviour, highlighting that positivity can be found anywhere with an upbeat attitude.

Newcastle’s Dr Sandile Qwabe has exploded in popularity after his TikTok videos went viral, showcasing the vibrant doctor dancing, laughing, and even enjoying a smoke in his medical scrubs at the Madadeni Hospital.

With the medical doctor’s videos being shared far and wide, certain individuals took offence to Qwabe’s social behaviour, claiming that he has brought disrepute to the medical sector.

However, despite the naysayers, scores of people have rushed to his defence on Twitter, highlighting that he continues to bring joy to the medical sector and is always highly professional.

In addition, reports surfaced stating that Dr Qwabe was reported to the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) for his jovial behaviour. But this proved to be a futile exercise, with the HPCSA noting that it only regulated medical professionals’ work-related code of conduct, stressing that it did not regulate registered practitioners or their lifestyle.

Nevertheless, with South Africa currently under a dark cloud, Dr Qwabe’s upbeat attitude comes as a refreshing change and an inspiration to others to calm down and celebrate the day.

To watch some of the doctor’s videos you will require the TikTok app which is available in your app store.
