Comprised of Newcastle, Dannhauser and Utrecht, the Amajuba District now welcomes 142 new police constables to the area.
As always, the highly informative Newcastle SAPS spokesperson Lizzy Arumugam gave us the rundown.
“On 4 January 2023, the Amajuba District Commissioner, Major General Fred Alexander, welcomed 142 new police constables. All the officers were freshly trained from different police academies in South Africa. Some were trained as far afield as Kimberly, Tswane and Chatsworth Police Academies,” explained Arumugam.
Addressing the new police officers, the Major General emphasised the importance of ensuring the safety of the Amajuba District residents.
According to Arumugam, the District comprised of Newcastle, Dannhauser and Utrecht has seen a dramatic decrease in crimes over the past Festive Season.
While the issue of gangsterism remains a thorny issue in certain parts of the Amajuba District, Major General Alexander stipulated that this would soon become a thing of the past with the new measures in place.
The operation ended at Madadeni Police Station, where the new constables were then deployed to their respective new police stations in the Amajuba District.
